My Days in Court – Why I love Suits

Suits.  I have an unconditional love for them.  And I always want to collect more.

I’m really a suit gal.  My love for suits and women in suits started when I was about 16 years old.  The district attorney, investigator, and victim witness advocate assigned to my case all wore suits.  I was very lucky to have a team of women.  Incredibly strong and mighty women.  On every visit leading up to my days in court and especially during the trail, they wore sharp beautiful dark suits (I shared part of my trail and court case here).

These women hold a very special place in my heart.  When I was with them, the whole world disappeared.  They treated me like a human being, and not a case they’re working on.  They were interested in my studies, school activities, goals, and were so positive.  And they kept on pushing me to believe in myself and they pushed dangerous people away.  My investigator was relentless.  I saw her the most out of the three.  She’d obtain restraining orders whenever she felt my safety was jeopardized, she physically pushed my relatives away when they rushed at me in court, and she took me on car rides to comfort me.  All while wearing badass suits.

This is why I love suits so much.  Every time I wear one, I always think about them and how they changed my life.  They gave me strong female role models to look up to.  Even though I was with them for only about 2 years, they left a long lasting impression on me.  One that will last a lifetime.

After my court case and right before I left for college, that was the last time I saw them.  That was about 20 years ago.  Maybe they’re reading this, but I highly doubt it.  I never got a chance to properly thank them.  To all those incredible Special Victims Unit DA’s, investigators, and victim witness advocates out there… you might never hear from us, but know that your work leaves a long lasting effect.  You might never hear thank you, but please know that you changed our lives.  Please keep on fighting the good fight.  And wear those badass suits.

Thank you for being on this journey with me.  As always, thank you so much for reading.

The Spring Dresses To Get Excited About

There’s nothing better than throwing on an easy spring dress once the weather warms up. Right now, it seems as if we’re in that weird, transitional timeframe where we’re stuck in semi-cold winter weather, but sometimes wake up thinking that it’s spring. The sun’s out and shining, but some days the weather app says it’s […] read on

Natural Lipsticks That Are Good Enough to Eat

Think of all the products you put on your lips… lipsticks and stains and balms and oils and scrubs… the list goes on! While it hasn’t been proven, it’s said that a woman can consume between 7 and 10 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. Whether or not that statistic is true… whichever way you […] read on

Daily Outfits, Unpublished Looks from Artemis

Store outfits, unpublished looks from Artemis.  Sharing my daily outfits and styles from my second home.

The shop is open from 10 – 8 pm everyday (except Mondays), so I end up spending about 10 hours a day working at Artemis.  I’ve learned very fast that the brick and mortar world is extremely different from the online world.  Different in both complexities and joys.

The hemp/cannabis industry is considered high risk, so everything that we do from building rent to insurance policies to merchant card rates are higher and more costly.  Any policy change from the state and federal level affects us.  And more importantly, any change from the farmers and formulations affects our clients (including me because I take CBD regularly to manage my pelvic spasms).  Colin keeps a very close eye on policy changes and I monitor brand formulations very closely.  Even with all of these challenges, the joy that comes with it is abundant.  We get the opportunity to talk to people about their health and try our very best to be part of their wellness journey.  It brings us so much joy to see our client’s health improve, and moreover if they need additional guidance, we’re here to connect them with medical professionals.

When it comes to work outfits, as you can see, high waisted jeans are my favorite.  They’re extremely slimming and help elongate our legs.  Here are a few more of my favorites: Madewell button front dark high waisted jeans, Topshop high waisted jeans, and Everlane stretch button fly high waisted jeans.

My secret to keeping my feet happy and not too sore is applying a CBD balm (will talk about that later) and switch to comfy loafers by the end of the day.  These shearling loafers definitely live up to the hype – they’re suuuuper comfortable!  If you like the look of these, I found a few more options at great prices – Steve Madden faux fur loafers (under $75) and Franco Sarto faux fur slides (under $75).

Military-inspired boots are always something I have on hand.  They add more depth and a great juxtaposition to feminine and casual outfits.  And the best part, they’re comfortable!  When it comes to military-esque styles, I usually prefer block heels or flat boots.  Here are some styles that I adore: J.Crew multi-buckle boots, Schutz lace up boots, and Sam Edelman studded boots.

I hope you enjoy the outfits and styling.  Hope to see you at Artemis and online soon!  And as always, thank you so much for reading!

Say Goodbye To Skinny Jeans

In our opinion, there isn’t a more classic outfit than a t-shirt and jeans. It’s easy, effortless and looks just as good on a hot date as it does on a Sunday morning farmer’s market run, with the right accessories of course… (mini-bag, anyone?) This classic and oh-so-chic outfit is open to one of the […] read on

Mini Bags are a Thing Now

We’ve seen them all over the runways, all over our Instagram feeds, and even in Chriselle’s closet– so we guess it’s safe to say that mini bags are totally a thing now.
