Happy Wednesday everyone! If you’re sweating just looking at me, you can imagine how hot it was when I took these photos. But it’s worth it! First and foremost, I wanted to share with you my excitement for autumn. With fall around the corner, there are a few key trends that I’m always excited about. I love revisiting capes! Part superhero, part off-duty editor vibe, the classic cape silhouette gets updated with soft leather and biker-inspired details. With such a strong piece, I like pairing it with feminine elements such as an oversized bow blouse and mini lengths.
Another reason why I love capes is that it’s such a powerful piece. It moves swiftly, it glides in the wind, and it feels authoritative. Maybe just wearing it makes me feel like I can be an agent of change. Starting my foundation was by far one of the most challenging initiatives to date. Working with other non-profits, understanding housing regulations to help our youths out of homelessness, navigating the politics of advocating for youths who have been previously incarcerated, working with incredible community leaders, developing a sustainable program, and more have taught me so much about life and the injustices in this world. There are days when I stare blankly at the wall feeling overwhelmed. When these moments happen, I turn to other community leaders and strong inspiring women. Women who advocate for change from inside the system to global leaders who champion for human rights. I feel like they’re wearing capes but their capes extend far and wide to provide protection and guidance for others to follow.
Sweating through this shoot was completely worth it (and I’ll gladly do it again and again if needed!), because last but not least, Worth New York will be hosting a virtual giving show in which a portion of the sales will be donated to the Wendy’s Lookbook Foundation. Worth New York is a luxury direct-to-consumer line sold exclusively through personal stylists, online and now in a gorgeous 5th Avenue showroom. What I love is that the brand stands for much more than clothing; they are mission and values led. They strive to improve the lives of women, and the Fall 2016 campaign celebrates 25 years of empowering women. I’m so thankful that they included me in this campaign. Words cannot describe how grateful I am of their generosity!
I hope you enjoyed this post and styling. I’m looking forward to fall (and autumn in NYC?! Oh my!) and I can’t wait to restyle this incredible cape once the weather gets cooler.
Thank you so much for reading! And special thanks to Worth New York for partnering on this post! Thank you for your generosity and for believing in our mission!
